What is A Sick Life?

4

My name is Michael Loiacono. I have Sickle Cell Disease – Sickle Beta Thallasemia to be specific – and I live a sick life. Fortunately, not the ‘sick life’ that entails frequent hospital visits, blood transfusions and endless amounts of narcotics to manage pain. The good ‘sick’ – a beautiful wife, a fulfilling job, trips to other countries, and most of all, great health. I created this site to help other sickle cell victims achieve this as well. Here’s how:

  • Share – Be transparent about my knowledge and experience of living with sickle cell
  • Inspire – Set goals. Achieve them. Be positive. Show people that anyone can live a sick life
  • Connect – Network with other victims of sickle cell to understand their experiences
  • Kick Ass- Help others understand that having sickle cell can define you in a positive way

My end goal is to create a big enough following and network that I can reach out to teenagers and their families, helping them better their lives with sickle cell. Click here to see what I’m talking about. If you want to speak with me personally or set up a time to meet, please email me at michael.a.loiacono@gmail.com

Daphine, this is true. And while it is also a good practice to double check that your blood has been properly screened, I have not had any problems.
